Brian Kelly shares takeaway from escape at South Carolina: ‘You can’t live like this’
Brian Kelly had a blunt assessment for his team on Monday.
The coach joined the Paul Finebaum Show to discuss his LSU Tigers’ 36-33 victory over South Carolina.
When asked what his takeaway from the game was, Kelly admitted LSU will have to play better if it wants to reach its goals in 2024.
“You can’t live like this. You don’t get many chances to come back from a 17-0 deficit on the road against a really good football team,” Kelly said. “Everybody can have their opinions about South Carolina. I was there, I watched them play. I saw their talent on defense, in particular. It’s real.
“We can’t live like this, we’ve gotta clean these things up moving forward against UCLA,”

The Tigers were stuck in a 17-point deficit at one point and lost 2 turnovers.
That South Carolina defense held the Tigers scoreless in the 1st quarter and forced the aforementioned 2 turnovers. Additionally, the Gamecock defense collected 2 sacks and 6 tackles for loss in the game.
Garrett Nussmeier threw for 285 yards and 2 TDs against the Gamecocks, but the QB was responsible for both of the team’s turnovers. Caden Durham had a big game on the ground, though, racking up 98 yards and 2 TDs in the game.
The Tigers are now sitting at 2-1 with a quality SEC road win under their belt. As Kelly mentioned, UCLA is next up for the Tigers. Kelly’s squad is hoping to find a rhythm before they resume SEC play against No. 5 Ole Miss in Week 7.
