Brian Kelly speaks to the relationship between Jayden Daniels and OC Mike Denbrock
A good relationship between a quarterback and the offensive coordinator is crucial for a good team, and Brian Kelly believes Jayden Daniels and Mike Denbrock have it.
They got one season together under their belt in 2022 and then had the chance to spend the offseason working out what worked and what didn’t. Now, the two are able to work together before, during and after games to make sure the offense is clicking the way it needs to.
“I think a lot of that happens in the offseason in terms of getting an opportunity in the winter months and in the spring, and even in the summer to talk about how the offense looks and how it best fits they’re liking,” Kelly said during the SEC coaches teleconference Wednesday. “I think when you go into Year 2 and you have the ability to kind of rehash the year, the first year that is, where Coach Denbrock and Jayden can sit down and talk about, ‘Hey, what are the things you like, what are the things you really feel comfortable with.’ That’s when you start to see some of the nuances of the offense come together and I think we’re highlighting on those things because we got those opportunities to spend time with Jayden and start to add those things within the offensive structure.”
And LSU offense is clicking early this season. They’ve put up at least 3o points in every game since the season-opening loss to Florida State, including a 72-point performance against Grambling State and a 49-point outing in the loss to Ole Miss.
Now it’s a matter of the defense stepping up. LSU was in good position for a win over Ole Miss, but the defense just wasn’t there and the Tigers ultimately fell short.
The Tigers have another tough matchup this weekend against Missouri, which is undefeated and looking for another big win.
