Brian Kelly addressed the health of Greg Brooks Jr. during his most recent press conference on Wednesday.
The LSU senior safety underwent emergency surgery last Friday to remove a large brain tumor, according to a recently released statement from his family.
This comes after the team captain had a bout with vertigo in the preseason, which LSU’s head coach indicates was an early symptom.
“We were trying to find out what the symptoms were. He had another episode, he had dizziness again on Wednesday of last week,” Kelly said. “Finally, we said enough’s enough and we got an MRI and that’s when the tumor was located. The vertigo was a symptom of a larger issue.”
Kelly also addressed whether the 5-foot-10, 187-pound Louisiana native will return to the field in 2023.
“That’s so hard for me to even know. There are so many unanswered questions, I don’t know that I could even begin to give you the medical pieces relative to the surgery to give you an educated answer on that,” Kelly said. “I saw him in the hospital on Sunday, he’s still coming out of heavy sedation, so we weren’t able to have a lucid conversation. I know before he went in, he was pretty adamant about playing again this year but that’s Greg Brooks.”
Brooks Jr. has recorded 2 pass deflection this season. No. 12 LSU hosts Arkansas in Week 4.
