Ja’Wuan James was supposed to make $10 million for the 2021 season but that’s off – for now. The Denver Broncos have released the former Tennessee standout after he tore his Achilles earlier this month.

Denver believes it is not financially obligated to pay James his 2021 salary because he suffered a non-football injury working out away from the team facility. As many expected, James is “strongly considering filing a grievance through the NFL Players Association for lost wages,” according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

The No. 19 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, James played in 62 games during five seasons with the Miami Dolphins but has hardly played since. James played three games for the Broncos in 2019 before opting out of the 2020 season.

The NFL world will be watching closely to see what comes of James’ release and any grievance.
