Bruce Arians comments on performance of Kyle Trask following Buccaneers’ preseason loss to Titans

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have used the first 2 games of the preseason to evaluate their quarterback room and solidify a contingency plan in case Tom Brady is injured at any point during the 2021 season. Brady only played in one series in the Bucs’ loss to the Bengals on Aug. 14 and was held out during their 34-3 home defeat to the Tennessee Titans on Saturday. He’s not expected to play in the preseason finale against the Houston Texans next Saturday, either.
With Brady out, the Bucs saw veterans Blaine Gabbert and Ryan Griffin take snaps along with rookie Kyle Trask. Gabbert played in 3 series to start the game before giving way to Griffin, who played until halftime. Trask then played the entire second half and put together a fairly average performance, completing 13 of his 26 passes for 131 yards. But he threw 2 interceptions, both coming after deflecting off his receivers.
“It’s a learning experience,” head coach Bruce Arians said after the game. “Kyle’s got a long time to grow.”
The former Florida star, a 2nd round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, should see even more opportunities to impress Arians next Saturday as the Bucs head to NRG Stadium to face the Texans.
