Allen Flanigan could be set for a special senior season for the Auburn Tigers.

Flanigan is set to be a leader on a team missing a few top players from last year’s strong squad. According to head coach Bruce Pearl, Flanigan is playing the best basketball of his career just a week before the start of the regular season on Nov. 7.

Pearl will be able to evaluate him soon enough. The Tigers are set for a scrimmage against Alabama-Huntsville Wednesday night.

Flanigan had a bit of a rough junior season for the Tigers, shooting just 20% from 3 and 48% from the field. He still earned starting nods for the Tigers as a small forward, sharing some with Devan Cambridge, who departed last season for Arizona State.

Time will tell whether Flanigan or high-upside freshman Chance Westry will get the starting nod this year, though Westry has been dealing with a knee injury that will likely hold him out of the first few games of the season. Advantage, Flanigan.

The Tigers don’t exactly have a gimme-opponent for Game 1. Kim English’ George Mason team comes to town with a surprisingly strong starting lineup, highlighted by Josh Oduro and Victor Bailey Jr, who played for Tennessee last season.
