The 2019 NBA Draft takes place next month in Brooklyn, but before then is the NBA Combine in Chicago from May 15-19.
Auburn PG Jared Harper wasn’t among the 66 players to earn an invitation to the event (which seems like an oversight, but still), but it appears he’s planning on staying in the draft.
On Wednesday, coach Bruce Pearl spoke with reporters and discussed a succession plan should Harper stick to his plan to enter the draft. Per AL.com, he said there’s no way to replace Harper, but he thinks a couple of guys on the current roster could help fill in at point guard:
“Right now, we’re really not looking to try and replace Jared,” Pearl said, “in the sense that Tyrell (Jones) definitely can. I think Samir could play at the position as well.”
Tyrell Jones is a 4-star player who has already signed his letter of intent to play at Auburn this fall. Samir Doughty played in all 40 games for the Tigers as a junior in 2018-19, starting 27. He averaged 7.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.4 steals per game.
Who will fill the point guard slot for the Tigers this fall? That’ll be a big question for Pearl and his staff this offseason.
