Bruce Pearl believes Auburn has hired an ideal fit in new head football coach Hugh Freeze.

Pearl had high praise for Freeze during a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s SEC Radio.

“Hugh’s been successful at every level he’s been at,” Pearl told the show. “He’s paid his dues. He had great success at Ole Miss, beat Alabama back-to-back. That’s something that’s important at Auburn. We’ve got to be able to beat Alabama, got to be able to beat Georgia. We haven’t… you know, Gus (Malzahn) beat them. So, that was a natural fit. I think Hugh’s family, it’s a wonderful Christian family. This is a wonderful Christian community. He fits everything about Auburn.”

On that note, Pearl also acknowledged Freeze’s past missteps but felt the Auburn community would be willing to forgive the new football coach and move on. The basketball coach continued.

“Man, Hugh’s going to be great,” Pearl said. “He loves people. He loves his kids. He’s all about player development. You know, the analytics, talking about doing more with less. We may not have as much as Alabama or Georgia, but we’ve gotta be able to compete with them. And Hugh Freeze is going to be able to.”
