Auburn’s defensive line took a hit to its depth on Tuesday when coach Bryan Harsin announced that Tyrone Truesdell, a starter the last 2 seasons, is no longer part of the team at this point.
Harsin announced the news to the media, including AU Gold Mine, though Truesdell was still listed on Auburn’s official roster and was included on the updated roster — which included new arrival Demetris Robertson — handed out to the media before the start of Tuesday’s practice viewing window, Tom Green of AL.com reported.
Truesdell, who returned this spring to take advantage of the NCAA’s free year of eligibility, was expected to be an anchor on the defensive line this season.
The 6-foot-2 and 335-pounder out of Augusta, Georgia has 67 career tackles and has made contributions to the program for 4 seasons, including the last 2 as a starter.
During that time, Truesdell appeared in 44 games and made 19 starts with 9 tackles for a loss and 3 sacks.
Green reported that Truesdell was lauded in the spring by new defensive line coach Nick Eason as a “silent leader” in the defensive line room, while linebacker Owen Pappoe said in the spring that the Tigers hoped his presence at defensive tackle this season would have a “Derrick Brown-type effect” for the defense.
