The accolades keep rolling in for Bryce Young after his tremendous first start for Alabama.
On Wednesday, the Crimson Tide sophomore quarterback was named the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week. He previously received SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors and had been named to the Davey O’Brien Award’s “Great 8” and the Manning Award’s “Stars of the Week” lists.
It’s all deserving, considering Young passed for 344 yards and 4 touchdowns in leading Alabama to a season-opening 44-13 win over Miami on Saturday. Both of those were program marks for a Crimson Tide QB in his starting debut.

There was a lot of hype for Young heading into 2021, and so far, he’s lived up to it. Even though Alabama’s offense lost a bunch of key players from last season, it had no trouble putting up huge numbers against Miami.
Young didn’t get much playing time as a true freshman in 2020, while serving as the backup to Mac Jones. Now that he’s gotten on the field, he’s playing so well that he’s receiving numerous Week 1 awards.
This could be the start of a big season for Young. And this likely won’t be the last time that he receives a bunch of honors for his performance.
Young and the Crimson Tide will look to keep rolling when they host Mercer in their home opener on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
