Buck Belue got a good laugh out of Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin promoting Georgia coach Kirby Smart to coach the Atlanta Falcons.

The legendary Georgia quarterback, who’s also a radio personality on 680 The Fan in Atlanta, gave a pair of reasons why that wouldn’t happen, but only after a healthy belly laugh. Belue called it the funniest thing he’s heard all day at work.

“Mr. Blank’s not going to pay Kirby Smart in excess of $12 million a year to coach the Falcons,” Belue said. “No. 2, Falcons don’t even pick Georgia players in the NFL Draft. Come on man, you know that’s not happening.”

The Falcons did not draft a player from Georgia between 2012 and 2021 before they picked Justin Shaffer and John FitzPatrick, both in the 6th round in 2022. They have never taken a player from Georgia in the first or second round since the Falcons became a franchise in 1966.
