Kentucky senior Alvin “Bud” Dupree has been named Southeastern Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week, the league office announced on SEC Now on the SEC Network Monday night. Dupree had six tackles, including one-half tackle for loss, and intercepted a pass deflected by senior defensive tackle tackle Mike Douglas for the game-winning touchdown with 2:29 left in the fourth quarter of Kentucky’s 45-38 win over South Carolina.
The win marked the largest fourth quarter comeback in school history as the Wildcats rallied from a 38-24 deficit. Kentucky matched its SEC win total and doubled its overall record from the previous season with Saturday’s win .
Dupree has 23 tackles this season, with three for loss, 1.5 sacks, a pass break-up and two QB hurries. The senior has recorded 196 tackles, 27.5 for loss, five pass break-ups and two forced fumbles over the span for his career. Dupree is a member of the Ted Hendricks Award Watch List, given to the NCAA’s top defensive end, as well as the Chuck Bendarik and Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch Lists, annually given to the nation’s best defensive player.
Dupre is the fourth Kentucky player to receive SEC weekly accolades this season. Senior Darrian Miller was named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week last Monday. Sophomore center Jon Toth earned SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week after Kentucky’s opening game blowout of UT Martin and wide receiver Garrett Johnson– who set a freshman record of 154 receiving yards against Florida– was named SEC Freshman of the Week.
