Scott served as the interim head coach for the Hurricanes after they fired Al Golden during the 2015 season.
He had been with Miami since 2013, and was with USF for the eight seasons prior.
Rucker praised Butch Jones’ decision on the hire, as he apparently out-muscled new Miami coach Mark Richt:
Credit due to Butch Jones on Larry Scott hire. That’s a big-time hire. And he did it quickly, too. Helps the team and recruiting.

Miami wanted to keep Scott. A real coup by Butch to get him to Knoxville.
