As Buzz Williams and Texas A&M prepare to open the season, he has commented on the action from the NCAA that caused him to be suspended 2 games and Texas A&M basketball be placed on 2 years probation for self-reported NCAA violations.

“I’m disappointed, but at the end of the day, it’s on me,” Williams said. “It began during the lockdown, but it wasn’t overly intentional. We were just trying to find some safety for our guys.”

The coach added that almost all consequences have been “fulfilled.”

For background, the Aggies in August received a report from the NCAA that said Williams had impermissible contact with a prospect during an evaluation period. Then an assistant coach violated NCAA rules when he observed a prospect participating in an open gym during an unofficial visit and later conducted two 45-minute tryouts with that prospect, during which he provided coaching instruction.
