Six players with ties to SEC football were inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday night.

The eight inductees were:

  • Lee Defore – Auburn basketball’s first 1,000-point scorer.
  • Ken Donahue – Defensive coordinator at Alabama under Bear Bryant.
  • Jim Goostree – Alabama athletic trainer for 27 years
  • Jeff Herrod – Birmingham native who finished as Ole Miss’ all-time leading tackler and went to play seven seasons with Indianapolis Colts.
  • Todd Jones – Helped Jacksonville State to back-to-back College World Series.
  • Takeo Spikes – Former Auburn linebacker and two-time Pro Bowl and All-Pro selectee.
  • Kevin Turner – Captain of 1991 Alabama football team who played in NFL for eight seasons.
  • Carnell “Cadillac” Williams – All-American and All-SEC running back who helped Auburn to 2004 SEC Championship. First NFL player in history to debut with three consecutive 100-yard performances.

The Alabama Sports Hall of Fame inducts Alabama natives as well as out-of-state athletes who excelled at universities in Alabama.

“I can remember months ago getting the call. It caught me totally off guard because it wasn’t expected and wasn’t even a goal of mine. To be honored like this and to have people think of you this way is definitely a blessing and I’m truly honored,” Williams told WSFA NBC 12.

This year’s class was the 49th in the Hall of Fame’s history, bringing the number of inductees to 345. More information can be found at the ASHOF web site.
