With Omaha on the line, Dave Van Horn is turning to the SEC Pitcher of the Year.
Arkansas star reliever Kevin Kopps will get the start in Sunday’s deciding Game 3 of the Fayetteville Super Regional against NC State.
This season, Kopps has appeared in 32 games out of the bullpen, recording 12 wins and 11 saves posting a microscopic era of 0.66 in 81.2 innings of work.
Kopps has prior starting experience. He recorded five starts in 2017 as a redshirt freshman and one start in last year’s shortened season.
Earlier this month, Collegiate Baseball named Kopps its National Player of the Year.
The No. 1 national seed of the 2021 NCAA Baseball Tournament, Arkansas took Game 1 of the Super Regional with a 21-2 thumping of NC State. The Wolfpack evened the series Saturday with a 6-5 win. The winner of Game 3 will go to the College World Series.
Sunday’s game is set for 5 p.m CT/6 p.m. ET on ESPN2. Kopps worked two spotless innings on Saturday. We’re about to find out how much he has left in the tank.
