Saturday wasn’t a good day for Auburn.

Not only did the Tigers lose the 81st edition of the Iron Bowl to Alabama, but the game revealed just how far ahead Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide are of Gus Malzahn and company.

It’s the reality of the best rivalry in college football, and there’s a sizable gap between the two programs at this point. Of course, it’s college football, and things could certainly flip in no time.

Former Auburn star Cam Newton made it a point to wear Tigers’ colors prior to the Panthers game against the Oakland Raiders Sunday, and remembering just how dominant Newton was — not to mention the glorious win over Alabama in the 2010 Iron Bowl — will help AU fans smile today.

Newton was rocking the “CN” Auburn sweatshirt and orange cleats before kickoff.

I still stand firm in this fact: if you give me one player to win one game with throughout SEC history, I’m taking Cam Newton. Bar none, he’s the best physical specimen at quarterback the SEC has seen in some time. And yes, I loved watching Tim Tebow.
