NFL Network revealed Wednesday night that players voted Newton as the No. 1 player in the league. The announcement comes roughly five months after the Associated Press named Newton the MVP of the 2015 season.
The former Heisman winner went 296-of-496 passing for 3,837 yards and 35 touchdowns, while rushing for 636 yards and 10 scores on the ground last season. He was previously No. 73 on the leagues’s Top 100, a poll among players which has been conducted the past six seasons.
Former Alabama WR Julio Jones came in at No. 8 overall after his 136-catch season (1,871 yards, 8 TD) with the Atlanta Falcons. Odell Beckham Jr. grabbed the final spot in the Top 10. The former LSU standout recorded 96 catches last season for 1,450 yards and 13 touchdowns.
