Former NFL MVP Cam Newton offered a strong take on Friday, declaring that Joe Burrow is “more likely” to reach the Super Bowl than fellow LSU football alum Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels.

“Joe Burrow did everything but make tackles and cover people on defense last year,” Newton said. “When you lead the league in passing yards, passing touchdowns and completions.. Top 5 in passer rating and completion percentage, these are things you just have to consider. He’s getting better and better and better. And he has a triple-crown winner in Ja’Marr Chase, and he has his second option that’s not too bad in Tee Higgins, as well.”

Burrow enters the 2025 NFL season with the Cincinnati Bengals surrounded by elite talent, as Newton mentioned. Daniels, while dynamic and versatile for the Washington Commanders in his rookie campaign, is going to be facing adjustments from opposing defenses in Year 2. The upside is magnificent, but Newton believes the team’s supporting cast and division make the climb more challenging.

As NFL Week 1 approaches, all eyes will be on these quarterbacks to see if Burrow’s edge in experience and surrounding talent translates into a deep playoff run. Or, if Daniels can prove the prediction wrong.
