Carolina Coliseum reportedly suffers minor damage due to electric fire

The South Carolina Gamecocks basketball teams haven’t played in Carolina Coliseum since Commercial Life Arena opened in 2002, but the building still serves as a practice facility for both squads.
The university is renovating the Coliseum, but on Thursday, it suffered minor damage when a small fire broke out.
According to The State, a construction worker cut a live wire that he thought was turned off, prompting the building’s sprinkler system to kick into action:
Firefighters responded to an alarm at around 10:15 a.m. after a construction worker cut through a live wire he believed was turned off, causing electricity to arc and start a small fire, said Columbia Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins.
Nobody, including the worker who cut through the live wire, was injured, and by the time firefighters responded, the building’s sprinkler system had extinguished the fire, Jenkins said.
Fortunately, the damage was minor and the situation was quickly contained.
