Carson Beck and Brock Vandagriff met with media Tuesday to discuss spring practice and the state of the Georgia football QB room heading into April.
Beck, who is projected by many to be the favorite for the starting job next season, spoke on new offensive coordinator Mike Bobo’s early impact on not just his development, but the QB room as a whole following the departure of Stetson Bennett to the NFL.
Bobo of course played for Georgia from 1993-1997 and was an offensive analyst with the program last year before being named OC to take over for Todd Monken, who recently left for the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens. Because of his experience as a former quarterback, Beck was able to connect with him right away.
“Having him as our coordinator has been really good,” Beck said. “Obviously, him playing the position of quarterback and playing it here, he knows what we are going through. He connects and relates to us on that level because he has done it before. He is really positive and does a really good job with the offense, rallying guys and getting guys ready for practice. I am really excited to keep working with him and see how it goes.”
Vandagriff was asked about Bobo’s presence as Georgia OC during spring practice as well. His best words to describe him? “Pretty intense.”
“Coach Bobo is pretty intense,” Vandagriff said. “On the first day he came into the quarterback’s room and said, ‘I’m going to coach you guys hard, and I hope you guys are open to that.’ We didn’t really have a choice on if we would be okay with that or not, so we just said, ‘yes sir’. It’s been really good, the way he’s been coaching us, he has a reason for everything he does, and his meetings always go well.”
Missing football? Us too. But with college basketball season coming to a close, August camps and September games will be here before we know it.
Georgia opens its season Sept. 2 against UT Martin.
