The 2018-19 college basketball season is fast approaching. The SEC sent a record eight teams to the NCAA tournament in March last season. Will the conference be just as strong again this season?
At least one expert’s opinion suggests the SEC will be college basketball’s top conference. CBS Sports analyst Clark Kellogg predicts two SEC teams will go all the way to the final four. Considering there’s no way of knowing the brackets and the match-ups, it’s fair to view Kellogg’s prediction as his four strongest teams for the tournament run. While Kentucky may have the highest ranking to start the season, Kellogg likes Florida and Tennessee to emerge as regional champions.
“I’m throwing Florida in as a Final Four team, I’m throwing Virginia in — you know, the Cavaliers, on the heels of being the first No. 1 seed to lose to a 16-seed, I think they’ll bounce back in a big way,” Kellogg told CBS Sports’ Kyle Boone. “And then Gonzaga, which I think has a really solid group coming back. And finally, I’m going Tennessee for my fourth team. They’re experienced, well-coached and hungry.”
The Gators and Vols both made the NCAA tournament last year, but lost in the Round of 32.
