Aaron Taylor of CBS Sports released his top 3 Heisman Trophy contenders, and the names on the list may shock you.
At number 3, Taylor has Michigan running back Justice Haynes. Haynes has been a beast so far this season. Through 4 games, Haynes has totaled 537 yards and 6 touchdowns.
However, BetMGM doesn’t necessarily agree. BetMGM’s odds have Haynes at +15000 to win the Heisman, the same odds that he started the season with. History is on Haynes’ side, though, as every Heisman winner that has come in a year that ends with a 5 has been a running back since 1935.
Second on Taylor’s list is Oregon quarterback Dante Moore. Moore has totaled 962 yards, 11 touchdowns, and just 1 interception through 4 games. BetMGM has Moore as the second-best odds to win the Heisman.
At number 1 on Taylor’s list is Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson. Taylor believes that when you turn on the tape and watch Simpson, his best is better than anyone else’s in the country.
After a season-opening loss to Florida State, Simpson has been on a tear. He went a perfect 17-for-17 against ULM and totaled 226 yards and 3 touchdowns. He then followed that performance up with 24-for-29 for 382 yards and 4 touchdowns versus Wisconsin. While Simpson’s year didn’t start the way he and many Alabama fans expected, he’s turning it around and proving that he and the Crimson Tide are a force in college football.
