CBS Sports revealed a list on Tuesday that outlines the 10 best quarterbacks in the SEC heading into next season.
The SEC QB landscape is definitely intriguing as spring practices start to kick off around the conference. It’s a good mix of returners, transfers and first-year starters. In a move that shouldn’t come as much of a surprise (though this writer disagrees), Arch Manning comes in first on the list, followed by Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss and Georgia’s Gunner Stockton.
Here’s a look at the full rankings:
- Arch Manning, Texas
- Trinidad Chambliss, Ole Miss
- Gunner Stockton, Georgia
- Sam Leavitt, LSU
- Byrum Brown, Auburn
- LaNorris Sellers, South Carolina
- Marcel Reed, Texas A&M
- John Mateer, Oklahoma
- Kenny Minchey, Kentucky
- Keelon Russell, Alabama
As you can see, Cody Nagel — who made this list for CBS Sports — included the top 10 quarterbacks in the SEC in the rankings. Of course, not every QB1 race is as cut-and-dry as some others, but some notable exceptions and likely starters include:
- Missouri: Austin Simmons/Matt Zollers
- Tennessee: George MacIntyre
- Vanderbilt: Jared Curtis
- Florida: Aaron Philo
- Arkansas: KJ Jackson
- Mississippi State: Kamario Taylor
Arkansas’ KJ Jackson and MSU’s Kamario Taylor are two under-appreciated guys heading into bigger roles next season from this grouping. It’s a wait-and-see how they’ll develop in the SEC, but definitely a pair to keep an eye on.
