The last time LSU failed to make a bowl game was in 1999. CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm thinks that’s about to happen again.
In his bowl projections released Tuesday, Palm had the Tigers missing out on the postseason altogether. LSU currently sits at 4-2, meaning it would need to win no more than one of its final five games for Palm’s prediction to come true.
As far-fetched as it sounds, there is a rational basis for Palm to make such a claim. The Tigers’ final five opponents are all ranked SEC teams — No. 23 Ole Miss, No. 1 Alabama, at No. 17 Arkansas, No. 15 Florida and at No. 6 Texas A&M — comprising the most difficult remaining schedule for any FBS team, according to ESPN’s Football Power Index.
Of course, LSU is playing only 11 regular season games instead of the usual 12, having to cancel its home game against South Alabama to reschedule its showdown with Florida.
Could that series of events could the Tigers a bowl game? Only time will tell.
