Two teams stand head and shoulders above the rest in the SEC at this point, and those two teams could find themselves ranked No. 1 and No. 2 on the initial Playoff rankings.

Alabama and Georgia have been steamrolling SEC competition to this point, and a matchup for the ages in Atlanta keeps coming closer to reality with every passing week. The Crimson Tide headed to the bye week with a perfect 8-0 record while the Bulldogs are coming off of the bye week with a matchup against Florida.

The two teams are currently ranked No. 1 (Alabama) and No. 3 (Georgia) on the AP Poll, and Jerry Palm with CBS Sports predicted the two will be the top two teams on the initial Playoff rankings.

Palm pointed to Alabama’s dominance against all challengers so far as enough reasoning for the Tide being No. 1. He also pointed out that Notre Dame’s strong resume will only improve Georgia’s body of work thanks to the Bulldogs 20-19 victory in South Bend earlier this year.

There is still plenty of football left to play, but Alabama and Georgia have performed about as well as can be expected of two teams to this point. It will take a special performance to knock off either team down the stretch of the season.

Penn State and TCU came in at No. 3 and No. 4 on the prediction.
