NCAA President Mark Emmert announced earlier Wednesday that all March Madness games will be played without fans in the stands as attendance will be restricted to essential staff and limited family due to concerns over the spread of coronavirus. Emmert also shared that the NCAA is looking to move games into smaller venues for the Final Four and possibly the regional round. TV coverage will go on as planned.

CBS Sports and Turner Sports released a joint statement:

“We support the NCAA’s decision to proceed without fans at the tournament venues. We will continue with our plans to fully produce and cover the entire event.”

The tournament begins next week with the First Four in Daytona, the play-in games that thin the field from 68 to 64. This is shaping up to be a March Madness unlike any other, assuming the tournament still takes place and is not fully canceled. The SEC men’s basketball tournament in Nashville is proceeding as scheduled, with two games – with fans in attendance at Bridgestone Area – set to be played Wednesday night and airing on SEC Network.
