Central Michigan fears no opponent, at least, not publicly.

The Chippewas, yes, that’s their real team name, have announced the football program will be traveling to Tuscaloosa in 2023. The game’s official date has been set for Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023.

The official announcement from CMU brags about the program’s winning record of late against Power 5 competition, the Chippewas have won two games in the last three years against Power 5 foes — they beat Kansas 45-27 in 2017 (the Jayhawks went 1-11) and Oklahoma State 30-27 in 2016 (it should be noted that result was heavily disputed by OSU and they even claim it as a win after a bad call resulted in a loss in the game.)

“We embrace the opportunity of playing against a program with the storied tradition of the Crimson Tide of Alabama,” CMU coach John Bonamego said in a prepared statement. “As competitors, we welcome any challenge to measure ourselves against the very best.”

Alabama now nearly has a complete 2023 non-conference schedule as the Crimson Tide are scheduled to host Texas and Western Kentucky along with Central Michigan that season.

The Crimson Tide have since confirmed news of the game:
