Florida will have its biggest test of the season when they face rival No. 1 Georgia this weekend. In order for the Gators to pull off the upset, a strong game by quarterback Graham Mertz would be extremely helpful.

Mertz has led Florida to a 5-2 record since transferring from Wisconsin. The 6-foot-3 junior has been revitalized in Billy Napier’s system, so much so that CBS analyst Rick Neuheisel now compares him to 1 of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.

“Graham Mertz is this year’s Brock Purdy. You watch. He’s going to be an NFL guy,” Neuheisel said. “He’ll be very efficient. He’ll move teams right down the field but he can’t get behind the chains. That’s what this Georgia defense can do to you.”

Mertz has passed for 1,897 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions this season.

“When you look at Graham Mertz and the job that Billy Napier has done with him, it’s remarkable just how well he’s playing,” Aaron Taylor said.

However, everyone on the CBS Sports panel predicts a Georgia victory even with the absence of the injured Brock Bowers.

“I think Georgia is going to improve. It sounds crazy,” Neuheisel said. “But I think they’re going to improve offensively while Bowers is away because it’s going to incorporate more players into the offense.”
