Former Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel is trying to revive his playing career, but he will not get to play in the CFL this season.
Manziel burst onto the scene while playing QB for Texas A&M. The dynamic, dual-threat QB had an explosive career with the Aggies. He threw for 7,820 yards, ran for 2,169 yards, and accounted for 93 TDs with A&M from 2012-2013.
Issues off the field surfaced as Manziel began his NFL career, and he has not played in the league since 2015. He was mostly ineffective during his time with the Cleveland Browns, and he is now looking to play in the CFL.
According to a statement from the CFL, Manziel will not play this season, but he may be allowed to sign in 2018. Brett McMurphy shared the report on Twitter:
