Derek Stingley Jr.’s elite play at the Dunham School in Baton Rouge made him one of the most sought-after recruits (rated 5-stars on the 247Sports Composite) in the class of 2019 and earned him an invite to the All-American Bowl, a nationally televised high school all-star game in San Antonio featuring many of the top recruits in the country. Stingley, however, has reportedly decided to pass on playing in the game.
According to Billy Embody of Geaux247, Stingley has decided to begin practicing with LSU. While early enrollees are allowed to start practicing with their new teams in December, it means they can no longer play in all-star games such as the All-American Bowl. Tigers coach Ed Orgeron will certainly love that Stingley has decided that the opportunity to practice with LSU now trumps a Jan. 5 trip to Texas to play on NBC.
Stingley can only practice with LSU. Orgeron told reporters this week that he “wished” he could play Stingley in the Fiesta Bowl against UCF. Stingley can’t suit up Jan. 1 in Arizona, but he’s doing everything he can to help his new team.
