Charlie Condon wins 2024 national player of the year award

Charlie Condon is being recognized as the top player in college baseball for the 2024 season.
On Thursday, Condon was named the 2024 national player of the year by the Dick Howser Trophy, an honor named for the late Florida State great after his 1987 passing. Condon beat out fellow finalists junior second baseman Travis Bazzana of Oregon State, junior pitcher Chase Burns of Wake Forest, junior first baseman/pitcher Jac Caglianone of Florida and junior starting pitcher Hagen Smith of Arkansas.

Condon, who began his Georgia career as a walk-on, had a sensational 2024 season. Through Super Regionals, Condon leads the NCAA in both batting average (.433) and home runs (37).

Condon’s 37 homers are a record for the NCAA’s BBCOR bats era (2011-present). The mark is also the highest single-season total in UGA program history. With 62 home runs in red and black, Condon also owns the school record for career home runs, something he achieved playing just two seasons after redshirting.
Condon has been a multi-time SEC Player of the Week as well as NCBWA National Player of the Week for April 9-15 and NCBWA Division I Player of the Month for February. He helped Georgia baseball make its deepest NCAA Tournament run since 2008, when the Bulldogs reached the College World Series finals.
This season, Condon’s big bat led the Dawgs to earning the No. 7 national seed in the NCAA Tournament. UGA won the Athens Regional by going 3-0 against Army (8-7), UNCW (11-2) and Georgia Tech (8-6, 10 innings).
Condon and the Dawgs hosted the Athens Super Regional. After falling to NC State 18-1 in Game 1, UGA evened the series with an 11-2 win. The Wolfpack took the decisive Game 3 8-5, with Condon hitting his 37th homer in his final at-bat as a Bulldog.
Condon is a finalist for another prestigious national honor, the Golden Spikes Award. The winner is set to be announced at the College World Series.
