Will Muschamp is officially the defensive coordinator at Auburn, and while he’ll be at practice next week, it’ll be in a hands-off role.

Tigers head coach Gus Malzahn announced Saturday that safeties coach Charlie Harbison will coordinate the defense for Auburn’s bowl game vs. No. 19 Wisconsin on Jan. 1.

Harbison had been listed as co-defensive coordinator on Ellis Johnson’s staff, the same title he held during is previous stop at Clemson.

Muschamp will attend practice as Auburn begins its bowl preparations this week, though it will be Harbison running the defense.

“It’s going to be a great opportunity for Will to see our players, evaluate those guys,” Malzahn said. “He’ll monitor practice. He’ll get to know our kids.”
