Charlie Weis Jr. will be part of Lane Kiffin‘s initial staff at LSU, as the Ole Miss offensive coordinator will take on the same role in Baton Rouge.
Kiffin, of course, had hoped to coach the Rebels during the College Football Playoff, but was rebuffed by university AD Keith Carter. That won’t be the case for Weis, as he’s been given the green light by Kiffin to return to Oxford to help newly-promoted head coach Pete Golding guide the team through their first Playoff appearance in program history.
Weis posted a statement to his X account on Tuesday evening.
“I’m grateful to LSU for allowing me the opportunity to finish this season with Ole Miss,” he wrote. “Coach Kiffin and the LSU administration have been nothing but supportive. I’m excited about the Playoff run.”
The 32-year-old Weis, Kiffin’s OC at Florida Atlantic in 2018 and 2019 before joining the Ole Miss staff in 2022 after two seasons at South Florida, is one of the country’s brightest young offensive minds. The Rebels rank No. 3 in FBS in total yardage and passing yards per game, while their 37.3 points per game is 11th.
Trinidad Chambliss’ 3,016 yards is top 25 among FBS quarterbacks. Meanwhile, Kewan Lacy is second in the country in rushing touchdowns (23) and eighth in rushing yards (1,279).
