Chase Burns left Tennessee for Wake Forest after 2 seasons with the Vols. The electric right-hander is still registering big strikeout numbers, and he set a new program mark for the Demon Deacons Friday night.
Facing the Clemson Tigers, Burns had his elite stuff dialed in from the 1st inning. He registered his 7th strikeout of the night to end the 3rd inning, and it was just the beginning.

Entering Friday’s game, Burns had 140 strikeouts, and he’s now up to 156 on the season. Along the way, he shattered Wake Forest’s single-season strikeout record which was set at 143 by Rhett Lowder a season ago.

Friday’s win moves Burns to 10-1 on the season in 13 starts for the Demon Deacons. He now has 156 strikeouts this season on a career-high 82 innings pitched, surpassing the 80.1 innings he pitched as a true freshman.
Even before arriving at Wake Forest, Burns was a prestigious strikeout machine, including 14.3 strikeouts per 9 innings pitched during the 2023 season. He has been even better this year with a 16.8 strikeouts per 9 entering Friday to go with a career-best 0.893 WHIP and 5.3 hits per 9 innings.
