Chase Burns was a key reliever for Tennessee this past season. Unfortunately, with the season wrapping up Monday, he is reportedly looking at a new destination.

According to Ben McKee with 247 Sports, Burns has hit the transfer portal. Burns is coming off of back-to-back seasons with 100+ strikeouts and immediately becomes one of the top players in the portal.

Burns began the 2023 season as a starter for the Vols but hit some struggles at the start of SEC play. In 4 starts against Mizzou, Texas A&M, LSU and Florida, Burns allowed 23 total earned runs and was moved to the bullpen.

Burns shined down the stretch and in postseason play for the Vols. In the Super Regionals against Southern Miss, Burns delivered 3.2 innings pitched across 2 appearances without allowing a run and 5 strikeouts. He then came up big with 6 shutout innings and 9 strikeouts in a College World Series elimination game against Stanford.

In 2 seasons at Tennessee, Burns has recorded 217 strikeouts in 152.1 innings pitched with a 3.54 ERA. He is sure to have a lengthy list of interested programs and it will be interesting to see where he eventually winds up for 2024.
