Tennessee transfer Chaz Coleman has yet to report to summer workouts in Knoxville, according to Chris Low on On3Sports. This comes after Coleman was absent for the last few weeks of spring practice.

The Vols started voluntary workouts this week.

โ€œChaz has been dealing with some things, and weโ€™re here to support him,โ€ Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel said on Wednesday, via On3Sports. โ€œWeโ€™ll continue to go through that process.โ€

Coleman was one of the top transfer additions for Tennessee football this offseason and expected to play a major role immediately. The Penn State Edge decided to follow defensive coordinator Jim Knowles to Knoxville and was reportedly paid a hefty NIL price ($3.5 million) for his commitment. Reports in April said that Coleman had never been so far from home and was having trouble acclimating to the change.

Coleman’s payment was largely based on potential, with other suitors such as Ohio State also gunning for his services. The former 4-star prospect fits into Knowles’ system and totaled 8 tackles with a sack, 3 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble and 2 fumble recoveries last season across 8 appearances.

With that, Coleman’s status for next season is entirely up in the air. If this saga were to drag on, Tennessee may be forced to prioritize Tulane transfer Jordan Norman, who totaled 6 sacks for the Green Wave last season. Redshirt freshman Christian Gass is also a viable option.
