Chico Carter Jr. made sure South Carolina is starting the Lamont Paris era 2-0 with a thrilling win. The Gamecocks followed up Tuesday’s 80-77 win over South Carolina State by beating Clemson on a last-second bucket.

Carter was Friday night’s hero in Colonial Life Arena. He nailed a contested shot to make it 60-58 with just 0.3 seconds remaining on the clock.

South Carolina led 35-26 at the half. Clemson outscored the Gamecocks in the second-half 32-25, but Carter came through in the end.

Carter led all scorers with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 4-of-6 from 3-point territory, over 30 minutes of playing time. GG Jackson logged 33 minutes, adding 12 points and 8 rebounds.

Josh Gray played only 19 minutes off the bench, but grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds to go with his 6 points.
