Chief Borders, a reserve linebacker at Florida for 2 seasons, is headed to the B1G. Borders announced on his Twitter account on Tuesday that he had committed to Nebraska, joining new head coach Matt Rhule in Lincoln.
Borders graduated from Heard County High School in Carrollton, Ga., but is originally from Chicago. At Heard County, he was considered a 4-star recruit and the No. 37 linebacker in the class of 2021.
He didn’t play as a true freshman, donning a redshirt in 2021. In 2022, he was mainly a special teams contributor and was credited with a pair of tackles. On Dec. 5, he took to Twitter to announce that he would enter the transfer portal.
Borders will look to help Nebraska get back on solid footing in the college football world. It hired Rhule on Nov. 26 as the replacement for Scott Frost, who went 16-31 in just over 4 seasons at his alma mater. Rhule was most recently the head coach of the Carolina Panthers but saw tremendous success at the college level with Temple and Baylor.
