The Kansas City Chiefs are keeping it in the family with their latest reported practice squad signing.
Tommy Townsend is currently the Chiefs’ punter and has been since entering the league in 2020 as an undrafted free agent out of Florida. However, COVID issues have affected the team as kicker Harrison Butker is among a number of players placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
As a result, the Chiefs have reportedly signed Johnny Townsend, Tommy Townsend’s older brother, to their practice squad:
With COVID already taking out the #Chiefs' kicker this week, the team is adding insurance for punter Tommy Townsend — and it's a very familiar face. Townsend's brother, Johnny, is expected to sign with the team's practice squad, per source.

A 5th-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Florida, Johnny Townsend was on the Tennessee Titans’ active roster before being waived. Later, on Oct. 30, he inked a deal with the Houston Texans’ practice squad before he was waived a few days later.
This actually marks Johnny Townsend’s 2nd time on the Chiefs’ practice squad, signing on Nov. 17, 2020, before the Baltimore Ravens signed him to theirs.
Kansas City hosts the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Kickoff is at 4:25 p.m. ET.
