SEC Network analyst Chris Doering — and apparently some of the other members of the SEC Network crew — sat down on Sunday night and ranked their Top 5 SEC coaches.

Good luck guessing No. 1.

Just kidding. It’s Nick Saban. No surprise there.

But No. 2 through No. 5 was pretty interesting.

Doering listed Georgia’s Kirby Smart at No. 2, followed by Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen at No. 3 and South Carolina’s Will Muschamp at No. 4. The No. 5 spot belonged to Florida’s Jim McElwain.

It’s easy to see why Smart is at No. 2, given the incredible success (Georgia is 7-0) he’s had just two years into the job. And Mullen has proven he can win at the SEC level for the longest amount of time besides Saban.

It’s really those last two that could be up for quite a bit of debate. Interesting choices. Muschamp seems to be turning the corner with the Gamecocks, but it’s a slow process. And while McElwain has managed to win back-to-back SEC East titles at Florida, he’s hardly well-liked among Gators fans in Gainesville right now.
