Christian Lacouture will wear the No. 18 jersey for LSU

According to Michael Cauble, the sports director at WAFB in Baton Rouge, LSU head coach Ed Orgeron announced on Monday that defensive lineman Christian Lacouture will wear the coveted No. 18 jersey for the Tigers next season.

No. 18 had a ceremonial nature during Les Miles’ tenure at LSU, and it looks like Ed Orgeron will be keeping the tradition alive going forward. Starting with quarterback Matt Mauck, who won a BCS National Championship with the Tigers in 2003, the jersey has been passed on to a player who personified the Tiger spirit. According to LSU, “The No. 18 jersey quickly became synonymous with success and selflessness—in football and life”.

It also makes sense that Orgeron, who first joined the Tigers’ staff as a defensive line coach, would select one of his former star pupils for the honor. Orgeron is known to value toughness, passion, and hard work, three qualities that Lacouture, a fifth-year senior, has in spades.
