Christian Moore was locked in on Saturday during Tennessee’s game against Vanderbilt. He delivered a go-ahead home run and later tacked on an insurance run with a clutch knock to give the Vols a series win over the Commodores.

Moore opened the scoring with an RBI single for Tennessee in the top of the 3rd inning. However, Vandy would hold a 3-2 lead heading into the 6th inning.

Tennessee would apply the pressure by getting 2 runners on for Moore, and he forced a 3-2 count against Greysen Carter. On the full-count pitch, Moore caught up to a 101 MPH fastball from Carter, but it did not initially appear that Moore made solid contact.

It ultimately didn’t matter with Moore’s blast sneaking inside the foul pole in right and just beyond the wall for a game-changing 3-run HR to put the Vols on top.

Tennessee would exit the inning with a 6-3 lead after another run was added, but Vandy quickly cut into the lead to make it 6-5 heading into the 7th inning. Moore delivered once again, slashing a 2-out RBI single to the opposite field for a crucial insurance run.

That insurance run by Moore proved crucial with the Commodores not going quietly in the 9th inning. Vandy scored 1 run to keep the pressure on but the Vols were able to nail down a 7-6 win. Moore was the true catalyst for the game, going 3-for-5 in the win with 5 RBI for the Vols and a run scored.

SEC standings update

With Tennessee’s win and Kentucky’s Saturday loss to Florida, the Vols and Wildcats are now tied atop the SEC standings with identical 19-7 records in league play. By virtue of a head-to-head series win, Tennessee currently holds the tie-breaker over Kentucky with 4 games left to play in the SEC season.
