Cincinnati is set to replace Luke Fickell with a current coach from the ACC, according to multiple reports.
Cincinnati is expected to hire Louisville’s Scott Satterfield as its next head coach. An announcement could come as soon as Monday, Keith Jenkins of the Cincinnati Enquirer reported. Fickell recently took the Wisconsin job after 6 years with the Bearcats.
Satterfield is 72-40 in 9 seasons as a head coach, including a 25-24 mark in 4 seasons at the helm of the Cardinals program.
The interesting twist is that Louisville and Cincinnati are set to meet in the Fenway Bowl on Dec. 17. The schools have also been conference rivals over the years.
Satterfield will lead UC into the Big 12 next season, a similar transition that he made when he was the coach at Appalachian State, as it moved from FCS to the FBS, with the first official year coming in 2014. He was 47-16 at App State in 5 seasons. When Satterfield left for Louisville, Eli Drinkwitz became the coach at App State before he eventually left for the Missouri job.
