CJ Gardner-Johnson may have dodged a serious bullet during training camp with the Detroit Lions.
On Monday, the former Florida defensive back went down with what was originally believed to be a serious-looking injury. According to reports, Gardner-Johnson was carted off the practice field and was visibly upset after sustaining an apparent right leg injury.
Fortunately, it now looks like Gardner-Johnson has avoided a major injury. Head coach Dan Campbell announced Saturday morning that Gardner-Johnson is returning to practice, albeit in a limited capacity.
Though Gardner-Johnson will not participate in team drills, getting him back on the field so soon should be a huge relief for the Lions. Hopefully he’s able to get back into full practice in the near future.

Gardner-Johnson began his career with the New Orleans Saints and started 12 games with 6 interceptions a year ago for the NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles. He signed a one-year deal with the Lions for 2023 and is expected to play a key role for the team this season.
