Clemson defensive end Austin Bryant will be out for at least a month, including his team’s season opener against Auburn, according to head coach Dabo Swinney. Swinney said Bryant had a screw inserted in his foot after suffering an injury Monday and hopes to have him back before the Tigers’ game against Georgia Tech on Sept. 22.

Bryant recorded 23 tackles, including two for loss and 1.5 sacks, as well as nine QB pressures as a freshman in 2015. The former four-star prospect was expected to start at defensive end as a sophomore following the departures of Shaq Lawson and Kevin Dodd.

Clemson is one of the favorites to contend for the College Football Playoff after making an appearance in the CFB Playoff Final last season. The Tigers will travel to Auburn for their season opener on Sept. 3.
