The Clemson Tigers are set to take on the SMU Mustangs Saturday afternoon in Death Valley, and the status of their star quarterback, Cade Klubnik, appears to be in doubt after he was listed as questionable on Thursday’s official availability report.

Klubnik is still working through an ankle injury he suffered last Saturday during the third quarter of the Tigers’ 41-10 win over Boston College.

The senior signal caller has made 34 straight starts for Clemson, a streak that dates all the way back to the team’s loss in the Orange Bowl at the end of the 2022 season against the Tennessee Volunteers.

Klubnik has accounted for 1,530 passing yards and 11 passing touchdowns while also rushing for another couple of scores on the ground so far in 2025, and is the captain of offensive coordinator Garrett Riley’s offense.

If Klubnik is unable to suit up for the Tigers come kick off, then the burden will fall on redshirt sophomore backup Christopher Vizzina, who has only seen action as a backup over his 3 seasons with the program.

Vizzina has played in 3 contests so far in 2025, completing 7 of 14 passes for 227 yards, no touchdowns, and 1 interception, with that lone interception being thrown last weekend against Boston College when he was forced into action after Klubnik went down.

Kickoff between the Tigers and the Mustangs is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ACC Network. Clemson is a 5.5-point favorite, per Caesars.
