Clemson will travel to face Boston College at Alumni Stadium on Saturday night.
For the second week in a row, the Tigers will be playing on ABC in the network’s primetime slot. Last week, Clemson defeated NC State in Death Valley with College GameDay in attendance as well.
Historically, this was a relatively even matchup. Entering the 2011 season, the all-time series was tied 9-9-2. But Clemson has won 11 straight games over the Eagles, with most of those victories coming by multiple touchdowns.

Clemson enters this game with legitimate College Football Playoff aspirations. The Tigers have picked up ranked wins in back-to-back weeks, dispatching NC State and Wake Forest. Boston College is coming off of its first ACC win of the season. The Eagles shutout Louisville in the 4th quarter last week as Phil Jurkovec played his best game of the year. But overall, it’s been a disappointing start to the season for Jeff Hafley’s squad.
Boston College’s rushing defense has been a major reason for its struggles. The Eagles are allowing 4.06 yards per carry this year, which ranks 11th in the ACC. They’ve also allowed more rushing touchdowns (12) than anyone else in the conference.
Clemson’s rushing offense is in the middle-of-the-pack in terms of efficiency, but the Tigers won’t have any hesitation about running the ball. Will Shipley leads a deep stable of running backs and DJ Uiagalelei has proved to be a capable rusher so far this season.
Boston College’s offense has also struggled this year. The Eagles are missing several key offensive linemen and are 13th in the ACC in yards per play. That line will have a tough matchup this week against a Clemson defensive front that has the potential to be amongst the nation’s best.

It’s worth noting this is the “red bandana game” for Boston College. The tradition honors former BC lacrosse player Welles Crowther, who died while serving as a firefighter in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001. Each year, the game honors Crowther’s legacy as “the man in the red bandana.” Boston College historically plays well during its red bandana game — it beat USC in 2014, Florida State in 2017, Miami in 2018 and Virginia Tech in 2021.

On paper, Clemson seems like a matchup nightmare for Boston College. The Tigers are strong in the trenches, which is a major rebuilding area this season for BC. Clemson’s defense is capable of forcing Jurkovec into a costly mistake or two. The only danger here is Clemson coming off an emotional win and looking ahead to a crucial matchup with Florida State next weekend.
