Clemson’s best 2018 opponent? Tigers safety says it wasn’t Alabama or Notre Dame

Media Days are supposed to be about the upcoming season, but a debate about the 2018 season, and postseason, opened up after some comments from Alabama LB Dylan Moses spread like wildfire.

Moses was quoted at SEC Media Days declining to call Clemson the better team in the national championship game. He also said Georgia was the “hardest team” he has played against in college. Clemson OG John Simpson, in an apparent response to Moses’ comments, told reporters at ACC Media Days in Charlotte that Notre Dame was the best team Clemson played in its 2018 campaign.

Not all Tigers, however, agree with Simpson. Clemson safety K’Von Wallace tweeted Thursday morning, “In my opinion Texas A&M by far the best team we played LAST YEAR.”

With last year being in all caps, it’s worth bringing up that Clemson and Alabama played in January of 2019, but “year” and “season” are often used interchangeably when discussing college football.

One thing’s for sure, Texas A&M vs. Clemson was a closer, more-entertaining game than Clemson vs. Notre Dame or Clemson vs. Alabama. The Aggies fell just short of the upset, but it proved to be one of those circumstances where a loss can boost the perception of a program. Jimbo Fisher’s squad faces Clemson again this year, on Sept. 7 in Death Valley. The game is set for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff on ABC.
