If you’re a fan of football movies, you probably remember the name Bill Yoast. The iconic Virginia high school football coach was portrayed in the 2000 Disney film “Remember the Titans.” He passed Thursday at the age of 94 in an assisted living facility.

Yoast had been a successful coach at Francis Hammond high school before consolidation with T.C. Williams and George Washington high schools turned it into a junior high with T.C. Williams becoming the only school for upperclassmen of the three. T.C. Williams chose Herman Boone, played by Denzel Washington in the movie which chronicles the team’s 1971 season, to be the head football coach. Yoast joined the staff as defensive coordinator, helping to create an integrated team.

One of the movie’s most memorable scenes involving Yoast was shared by Max Preps and is included in a tweet by college football analyst Spencer Tillman, below:

More on the life of Yoast can be read here.
